Graduating Ceremony Held - Neighborhood Electrician's Course

India iswitnessing a huge growth in households and commercial establishments. Theassociated services like electrical maintenance etc., have become an importantelement of this growth. Presently, such services are predominantly provided byself-employed electricians and repairmen who are readily available in theneighborhoods and they constitute a large segment of the workforce in theunorganized sector. Most of these neighborhood electricians have not undergoneany formal training. There is a need for recognizing the skills, reskilling,and upskilling the neighborhood electricians so that they are able to maximizetheir contributions and benefits from this growth.

TPSDI and IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry have thereforelaunched the "Joint Certification Programme for NeighborhoodElectricians" under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programme torecognize the existing skills, validate and certify the participants'competence.

TheGraduating Ceremony for the first three batches of Neighborhood ElectriciansCourse was held on Jan 30, 2017 atTPSDI - Trombay Training Hub situated at Tata Power's Trombay Thermal PowerStation, Mumbai. This event was coincided with the launch of the "TPSDI -Skill on Wheels". The event was attended by several dignitaries from thecorporate world including Mr. DeepakPremnarayen, President, IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Sanjay Sagar,Joint Managing Director and CEO, JSW Energy Limited, Mr. Arvind Pradhan,Director General, IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Anil Sardana, CEO &MD Tata Power and Mr. Ashok Sethi,COO & ED Tata Power and other dignitaries.

In his address to the gathering, Mr.Deepak Premnarayen said that he was highly impressed with the work that TPSDIwas doing in the field of Skill Development. He also committed greatercooperation by IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry for extending the NeighborhoodElectrician's RPL and Certification to a larger number of people.

Mr. Anil Sardana also appreciatedTPSDI's efforts in taking forward the Prime Minister's "Skill IndiaMission". He also said that TPSDI will expand its footprints beyond itsfour Training Hubs through a Hub & Spoke model which will include moremobile spokes centers like the TPSDI - Skills on Wheels.
