ITI Principals' Meet held at TPSDI - Shahad

TPSDI works with the mission of enhancing employability of people from various sections of the society. Partnering with ITIs with the objective of enhancing the skills and industry-readiness of ITI students is a major focus area of TPSDI's skill development activities. With the aim of forging a partnership with DVET (Directorate of Vocational Education and Training) Maharashtra for extending TPSDI's training benefits to ITIs, TPSDI organized an 'ITI Principal's Meet' on June 16, 2016 at its TPSDI - Shahad Campus at Mumbai.

TPSDI-Shahad is a "Center for Excellence for Power System Skills" and is a one-stop shop for all kinds of power system skills. The center is spread across a sprawling 10-acre green campus that provides the extensive space and infrastructure needed to conduct courses across the whole range of power system.

The Meet was attended by 34 Principals of ITIs from the Ambernath-Thane -Mumbai region. Mr. S. M. Haste, Joint Director, DVET was the Chief Guest for the event.

The Meet began with the welcome address by Mr. J. C. Mistry, Head, Training Services, TPSDI, who also formally welcomed Mr. Haste, Mr. Wagh and others from DVET. Post this, Mr. C. N. Nagakumar, Chief - TPSDI, made a detailed presentation on TPSDI and its modular approach and certification methods. He also elaborated the areas where TPSDI can support the cause of ITIs, through Industry Skills. The suggestion included inviting students for training at the Institute, offering select courses in ITI premises and even undertaking Train the Trainer for ITI Instructors in Power Systems area. This was followed by an extensive facility tour, where the Principals witnessed live demos by TPSDI trainees on cable jointing techniques as well as various operations on circuit breakers, distribution lines and Solar PV and Thermal set ups. The group showed particular interest in the demo of the 22 KV Switchyard Simulator, which is a unique installation. The group also visited the various labs and workshops at the Training Center and saw the Transmission and Distribution setup.

During the afternoon, a Q&A session was held, after which, Principals shared their views and suggestions for greater collaboration in future. The Meet ended with a very inspiring concluding address by Mr. Haste to ITI Principals advising them to utilize this opportunity. He thanked TPSDI and promised that they would send a batch of Instructors to familiarize and there after work out collaboration plan.

Some of the key resolutions made during the Meet included mutual commitment for organizing more such events in future for creating awareness amongst other ITIs, and to work out customized training schedules as per the needs of individual ITIs.
