Hydropowerplays an important role in Bhutan's economy and is one of Bhutan Government's 5priority growth areas or the ‘Five Jewels’. It is estimated that between 2015 and 2020, at least 6,500 people will berequired by the hydropower sector in Bhutan. Vocational Training is expected toplay a key role in meeting this demand.
In the month of August 2016, a 10-member delegation of Government of Bhutan led Mr. Kinley Wangdi, Director, Department of Human Resources (DHR), Ministry of Labour and Human Resources (MoLHR) visited TPSDI Mumbai Hubs exploring possibilities for collaboration. The delegates included - Mr. Sangay Dorji, Chief Program Officer, DHR, MoLHR, Mr. Karma Loday,Chief Program Officer, Department of Occupational Standard, MoLHR, Mr. LobzangDorji, Principal, Jigme Wangchuck Power Training Institute and others. Theyhad shortlisted TPSDI after going through our website and were keen to forge partnership with TPSDI. The delegation visited TPSDI - Trombay on August 30,2016. On the next day, August 31, 2016, the delegation visited TPSDI - Shahad. They were taken through the training facilities, explained training methodology, certification system and shown and demonstrated of the training equipment in use for imparting power sector skills. At Shahad traditional sapling plantation was done by Mr. Kinley Wangdi.
The Delegates were highly impressed by the trainingfacilities and training approach adopted by TPSDI and they showed keenness totake this further for collaboration to enable them to operationalize JigmeWangchuk Power Training Institute which was established in 2014.
As a follow up to their visit Government of Bhutan have formally sent a letter of interest seeking support of TPSDI for collaboration. This is indeed a great recognition of TPSDI's credible approach and unique skill imparting methodology.
